Foundation issues of Kansas City
June 9, 2021

Are you Kansas City Real Estate? Congratulations! Kansas City Real Estate is a great investment, but you’re establishing roots in a great American city that you’re sure to be happy in. When buying a home, there are countless things to consider, and while you should always hire a professional home inspector to do a formal inspection prior to completing your purchase, there are also a number of things you can look at yourself to make sure you’re not getting more than you bargained for.

Inspecting Kansas City Real Estate Foundation

First, take a look at all of the walls and floors. Are they level? Are they sloping? Do you notice any cracks? If you notice that the walls aren’t perfectly square, the floor isn’t level, or cracks in the stucco or brick, it may mean there is underlying foundation damage and further investigation is warranted.

Second, do the doors and windows shut easily and fit properly? Oftentimes when a foundation settles, the doors don’t fit as nicely into the jams or the windows take extra effort to open and close. Once again, if you notice these things, you may want to dig deeper before completing your Kansas City real estate purchase.

Third, walk the perimeter of the home and inspect the foundation. If you see sinking areas, cracks, or bulging walls, make sure to do more to figure out the source of the problem.

Fourth, take a good look at the basement. The basement is often the first place foundation damage shows up. Are the walls even? Are they cracked? Do you see moisture seeping into the structure? If you do, take a closer look.
